Una forma viene pressata nella sabbia, in modo da creare un vuoto al suo centro. E quindi una colata di rame viene rovesciata sopra. La parte che eccede, che solitamente viene ripulita e scartata, è ciò che dà forma ed originalità al pezzo.
Lasciata allo stato grezzo, ovvero il più puro della materia, esprime tutta la sua lavica bellezza.
Il contrasto tra il centro della ciotola, perfetto, luminoso e dai riflessi opalescenti, e la corona esterna, dalla forma primordiale e materica, è straordinario.
Da una tecnica, quella della fusione dei metalli, antica quanto l'uomo, nasce un nuovo modo di intendere l'oggetto. E' il metodo di lavorazione che produce la forma. E ne produce diverse.
Diciannove ciotole, ognuna imprevedibilmente differente dalle altre. Non ve ne è infatti una simile all'altra. Perchè nascono da un processo che, per quanto ripetuto ed implementato, crea costantemente pezzi unici. Perchè derivanti dalla parte in eccesso.
Con la Serie 19, Omer Arbel attua pertanto un'affascinante sperimentazione dell'arte antica della fusione. Esplorando le infinite possibilità di un processo di produzione e le infinite possibilità intrinseche dei materiali.
A shape is pressed into sand to create a void. Then molten metal is poured into the void. The overspill, which is usually cleaned up and removed, is what makes the piece original. The material, in the raw, offers its lavic beauty.
The contrast between the interior of the bowl, so perfect, bright and with opalescent shimmers, and the surface around, rough and with a primeval shape, is extraordinary.
From the sand-casting technique, ancient as the story of the human being, is born a new way of thinking about the object. It's the fabrication methos that produces form. And it produces many of it.
Nineteen bowls, each unpredictably different from the others. There isn't one similar to the other. Because they are generated from a process that, even repeated and implemented, costantly creates unique pieces. Because they come from the overspill.
With Series 19, Omer Arbel makes an amazing experimentation of the ancient art of sand-casting. Exploring the countless possibilities of a fabrication method and the countless possibilities inside the materials.
